Warning, Rant Ahead, But FOs Included

I'm not in a very good mood, so lets get this over with first. (Skip ahead to the pictures if you'd like -- I won't be offended.)

I think my cold is coming back. Hubby got home last night, hacking and gagging all over the place. I feel stuffy, and my head feels a little funny (no sarcy comments!). I threw my back out Tuesday hanging towels out on the clothesline. I hurt my back when I was about 17 and have had trouble with it off an on since. I must have turned the wrong way, and bang -- could hardly move. Of course, the chiropractor was closed, so I had to wait til yesterday afternoon. It's still a little lame, but way better than it was. (Lower back, too, so it really sucks.) Then there's the general stuff, you know, kid with ADHD, buggery younger one, money and the lack thereof, yadda yadda... The icing on the cake was last night.

Both boys are in skating lessons. The oldest one is still in stage 2, and the littlest one started Kidskate. They've done five lessons of ten so far. The Littlest One had some difficulties the last couple of weeks. One week he only skated about half of the half-hour for his group and came off the ice, decided he didn't want to skate anymore, he was tired. Fine. Last week he skated for a bit and just layed on the ice. He did that a couple of weeks ago at the end when it was time to come off anyways. (I understand he can't do that - it's a danger to him and to others.) Fine, bring him off. Then they decided that there weren't very many in Kidskate, they'd put them in with the stage 1 group. (She said she didn't realize there were so many little ones or they wouldn't have done that.) Last night the head of the program called and kicked the Littlest One out of skating! Three years old and booted from skating. She has a refund cheque for me for the remaining lessons. And the Oldest One got a warning that if he does what he did last Sunday he's gone. (Don't ask me what he was doing -- I sat where I could watch them both, and he wasn't any different than any other week.) I was in too much shock to ask what she was referring to, but I don't even know if I'll bother taking him. That means I have to find someone to watch the Littlest One cuz I'm not chasing him all over the rink, and Daddy usually leaves for work in the morning. I'll also have to listen to him crying that his brother's going skating and he's not. I am sort of anxious to see if anyone else got booted. There were a couple of other kids who were made to come off the ice on a couple of occasions. She said maybe he's too young (why have a program for them that young?), maybe try him when he's older. I doubt it. Never again, I'll take them to public skating and the Littlest One to Moms and Tots when it starts in January. I have a couple of friends who really aren't impressed with the program at all, so I'm anxious to see what they think when I tell them they kicked my three-year-old out. Like hubby said, if that was hockey they would have to sit on the bench til they want to co-operate. If they sit there all season, so be it. They don't kick them out. Anyways, if that's how they do things, I don't agree with it, but that's life, I guess.

Anyhoo, my blood pressure is finally coming down, so I better stop getting myself all worked up again.

******RANT ENDED******

We did have a good meeting with the Oldest One's teacher today. He had a good report card, so that's a good thing. Hubby and I cleaned the basement totally out, and I have a floor again down there. We also cleaned the kitchen, the Oldest One's room, and the living room. After this I have to do my dishes and do the Littlest One's room and our room. After the kids go to bed I want to touch up some of the paint chips in the living room paint, do some caulking in the bathroom, and maybe some around some of the window. (Yes, I do that, not hubby. I am much neater at it.) I also want to mop my kitchen floor and the hardwood in the living room. So I don't foresee a lot of knitting happening tonight. But I do have some FOs!

First up I made this scarf for the store. We got Bernat Haven in awhile back, but it didn't sell. I don't think any of it sold til last week. I went in to work one day, and I had to fill the cubby with a few balls of it. I thought if I made something out if it then maybe it would sell. This is a free pattern off the ball band and also off their web site. It requires three balls, 8mm needles, and a cable needle. Very easy, very fast. This yarn is an acrylic/cotton/alpaca/nylon blend, and I used Ballerina.

The completed hat and mittens set child size 6-8 for the Oldest One's school raffle draw next week. It's made with Patons Shetland Chunky in a red that I don't see listed on their site anymore. I think it was called Rustic Red or something like that.

Fibre Trends clogs in men's medium, made with Patons Classic Wool in Royal Purple. These were ordered by a customer who doesn't knit. It's the first time I ever made these and plan on making three or four pairs for Christmas gifts. Again, a quick knit on 9mm needles.

Happy knitting!

My kids only went to one skating class...hated it - they like public skate or pond skating so much better. I think they liked to learn without someone telling them what to do and how to do it...no pressure.
I bet having that pretty cable scarf up in the store will sell some of that yarn! I really like the clogs too - I've never made them, but have always been intrigued...perfect for Christmas presents - maybe next year!

I do hope your back is feeling much better, and that your cold goes away quickly.

Sorry to hear about them kicking your son out of skating. That shouldn't have been allowed.

Great job on the scarf, hat, mittens and clogs. Don't forget to post the mitten one on Knittin' Mittens so I can count it for your November entry!

I can't believe they kicked him out of skating. What a mean thing to do! He's 3 for pete's sake!!

I hope your back is feeling better!

That scarf is nice. Small chance of me getting to the shop one day next week - very small. Strongly encouraged a friend of mine to go there on Thursday - but she didn't have time.

Sorry to hear about all your troubles. The bad back can make everything else seem so much worse.
I am surprised about the skating. They didn't used to take kids under the age of four because they had a hard time with the program. So this must be something new that I don't know about. But they shouldn't have kicked him out.
Your slippers look great! You must be pleased.

It sounds to me like the people running (and teaching) the younger children's skating classes don't understand children that age. Sitting (and laying) on the ice seems like perfectly normal behavior to me. Chances are they were just trying to expand their program without any clue how to do it. Your son is better off somewhere else. Of course, that is just my humble opinion ;)

Your knits are great. The cable scarf should do the trick for the yarn.

Kicked out of skating? That's just as bad as us getting kicked out of preschool ;-)! Just kidding - I'm very surprised, the teachers up here are very patient with Pete, he often lays on the ice for long periods of the lesson. Three is a bit young to expect a lot from them, I taught that skating program for 10 years myself. Pete is 2 1/2 and basically what they expect from him is a) show up to class and b) have a pulse!!!!!!

Hello again! I am going to have to buy some of that Haven yarn now! It made a lovely cabled scarf! That is the color that I keep looking at too! Love it! I have a huge Christmas knitting list. I hope that I can finish everything. I know that I will not, but wishful thinking helps! :)
