Back in Business

Haven't been able to post for a few days. The boys upset a glass of juice on the keyboard the other night. Once it dried out it was typing two letters sometimes (like press "s" and get "as"). Last night it seemed to be alright except for a few of the keys had to be pressed really hard. I was going to do a post after I had a bath, but when I sat down to do it the "s" stopped working altogether, so I couldn't even sign in. Got a new keyboard, so here I am.

Of course, everyone must have seen by now that Alison had her baby girl on March 6. What a little cutie! Also, the new Knitty is up. Aija made the cover with her bmp socks. (She's having a contest, btw.) Jennifer Thurston has a new pattern in here (like her stuff). There's socks, too.

Made a pair of felted mittens out of Patons Classic Wool in bright red. Here's the before and after.

We got these new kits at the store. I haven't done cross stitch in over seven years. I used to do it all the time. The finished size is 4x6", and the kit has everything to complete as shown. I'll take a picture of it in its finished state when (if) I get it done. I'd like to start on it soon. It looks like it's a pretty basic pattern, no half stitches, all whole, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Last weekend the brook that runs out back blocked up with ice under the bridge that goes under the main road. Region workers had to come and try to clear as much out as they could. They worked for probably three hours at least. The night picture isn't very good. They scooped the ice out with an excavator, dumped it in the road (which they had blocked off), and then used a loader to push it up to the parking lot of the building that is across from where I was standing.

Our truck should be finished the middle of next week. So much for not a lot of damage. The estimate so far is somewhere around$25,000. I have one quote that is like $20,010, but there were a few things missing that got added to it. There's quite a few things on there that we aren't replacing new, just fixing, so that should cut the cost down a lot. (For example, a new fuel tank is almost $2,200. All that happened was when the truck fell over, the cab came down on the fuel tank and dented it a bit where the cap is. It's a little harder to get the cap off to fill it, but that's all. Also, the bumper is just pushed back like 1/4" on the passenger side, can't really tell unless you're looking for it. New bumper is $538.) He's working in a company truck all this week and at least Monday and Tuesday of next week, doing local stuff. Better than nothing.

Next week is March break. No real plans so far. I'll have to see if we do get the truck back and where he goes. He said he may have some stuff to take to New Brunswick or something. The boys and I may go, depending on where he goes and the weather. Heddy has some activities planned for the kids over March break through the Region recreation program, so we may take part in some of those.

I have to work this weekend, but at least our summer student is coming home from uni this weekend. She's working Saturday, so I don't have to go in til 10, and if it isn't busy I will leave at 3. Lately Saturdays have been really busy in the afternoons, so I'll probably have to stay til we close at 4. I'm supposed to work tomorrow night, but I have to find out if I have a sitter first. I heard that my nephew (my usual sitter) broke his foot. I tried to call him, but there was no answer. Hubby probably won't be home til after supper sometime. That will just mean that the boss lady has to work. No one comes in on Friday night anyways, no sense being open really. I usually watch tv and knit.

PS I love the old Are You Being Served? shows, and I was sad to see that John Inman, aka Mr. Humphries, passed away today. Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe were my favorites. Mr. Humphries was famous for his catchphrase, "I'm free!"
