Haven't been able to post for a few days. The boys upset a glass of juice on the keyboard the other night. Once it dried out it was typing two letters sometimes (like press "s" and get "as"). Last night it seemed to be alright except for a few of the keys had to be pressed really hard. I was going to do a post after I had a bath, but when I sat down to do it the "s" stopped working altogether, so I couldn't even sign in. Got a new keyboard, so here I am.
Of course, everyone must have seen by now that
Alison had her baby girl on March 6. What a little cutie! Also, the new
Knitty is up.
Aija made the cover with her
bmp socks. (She's having a
contest, btw.)
Jennifer Thurston has a
new pattern in here (like her stuff). There's
socks,
too.
Made a pair of felted mittens out of
Patons Classic Wool in bright red. Here's the before and after.
We got these new kits at the store. I haven't done cross stitch in over seven years. I used to do it all the time. The finished size is 4x6", and the kit has everything to complete as shown. I'll take a picture of it in its finished state when (if) I get it done. I'd like to start on it soon. It looks like it's a pretty basic pattern, no half stitches, all whole, so it shouldn't be too bad.
Last weekend the brook that runs out back blocked up with ice under the bridge that goes under the main road. Region workers had to come and try to clear as much out as they could. They worked for probably three hours at least. The night picture isn't very good. They scooped the ice out with an excavator, dumped it in the road (which they had blocked off), and then used a loader to push it up to the parking lot of the building that is across from where I was standing.
Our truck should be finished the middle of next week. So much for not a lot of damage. The estimate so far is somewhere around$25,000. I have one quote that is like $20,010, but there were a few things missing that got added to it. There's quite a few things on there that we aren't replacing new, just fixing, so that should cut the cost down a lot. (For example, a new fuel tank is almost $2,200. All that happened was when the truck fell over, the cab came down on the fuel tank and dented it a bit where the cap is. It's a little harder to get the cap off to fill it, but that's all. Also, the bumper is just pushed back like 1/4" on the passenger side, can't really tell unless you're looking for it. New bumper is $538.) He's working in a company truck all this week and at least Monday and Tuesday of next week, doing local stuff. Better than nothing.
Next week is March break. No real plans so far. I'll have to see if we do get the truck back and where he goes. He said he may have some stuff to take to New Brunswick or something. The boys and I may go, depending on where he goes and the weather.
Heddy has some activities planned for the kids over March break through the Region recreation program, so we may take part in some of those.
I have to work this weekend, but at least our summer student is coming home from uni this weekend. She's working Saturday, so I don't have to go in til 10, and if it isn't busy I will leave at 3. Lately Saturdays have been really busy in the afternoons, so I'll probably have to stay til we close at 4. I'm supposed to work tomorrow night, but I have to find out if I have a sitter first. I heard that my nephew (my usual sitter) broke his foot. I tried to call him, but there was no answer. Hubby probably won't be home til after supper sometime. That will just mean that the boss lady has to work. No one comes in on Friday night anyways, no sense being open really. I usually watch tv and knit.
Happy knitting!

Love the felted mittens - and your boys, too. :0)
I'm loving the new Knitty - any plans for the new patterns?
I used to watch "Are you being served?" with my mom and grandmother. Looking back, the role of Mr. Humphries was pretty groundbreaking for the time. While not openly gay it was very strongly suggested. I'm sad to hear that John Inman has passed away. =(
Nice mitts ... you are a really quick knitter!
Sorry to hear the truck is going to be an expensive fix ... that's too bad!
I am really glad they got the blockage cleared up at the brook - a flood this time of year would not have been a pretty situation!
I usually try to stop in to the shop on Friday night or Saturday -- I know it can ne slow, but it is really convenient having you there! I was so upset when D. decided to close up shop, and had even contemplated buying the business myself -- but am really pleased thatyour bosses have it now!! Tom works on Saturday this week, so I will definately be in at some point during the day -- No other plans for Saturday, but to grope yarn and knit the Step Sock!!
Do you ever order dpneedles for the shop from Bryspun? Or is the pair that is there left from the old Ball & Skein stock?
I find the plastic good with my arthritis, and I love the little ball tips -- picks up yarn slick!
Love your felted mittens - as I always do!
I have a counted cross stitch that I started when I was pregnant with Kate (that would be 23 years ago) it's about 1/3 of the way done!
glad to hear you signed up ... as the date gets closer, we'll start making plans for the day! I let Jill know about the sign-up, so hopefully she'll do it soon, and we'll be Phoenixing together! It was fun talking today!
oh yeah ... I have been dreaming about one of the Socks That Rock clourways all evening -- I think I am gonna order a couple balls tomorrow (Sunday) ... if you want in -- give me a call (I will probably hold off until noonish to place the order.
Your felted mittens look so awesome - so perfectly warm and cozy, I think that'd be exactly what I'd need on the skiing slopes these days ;)
There's quite some patterns in the new Knitty that I'd love to try my hands at too - so many awesome patterns, so little time ;(
I'm so sorry to hear that the truck repairs are going to be so expensive, this sucks big time ;( All the very best to you guys!
