Just Like Starting Over

Picture heavy post!

What you see here is the rewound skein of Patons Stretch Sock that I was using to make my mother's socks. These ones. I didn't like them. At all. I can't see using the recommended 3.25mm needles. I was using 2.75mm needles, and I'm a pretty average knitter, not tight, not loose. The fabric was very loose, and I just didn't like how it looked. I couldn't see continuing on if I didn't like it. I will still make her a pair with this yarn, but it will either be vanillas on my usual 2.25mm needles or the pattern I was using on smaller needles with more stitches. (I've got three colorways of this yarn. To be honest it isn't my most favorite yarn. I should have known cuz I'm not a big cotton blend sock yarn person. I have to use cottons blends or sock yarn with no or not much wool for my mother. Her feet got frostbit years ago so she has trouble with a lot of what she wears on her feet.)

Some of our neighbors had fireworks on July 1. Poor Jewel. I guess Sunday night when the town sets off the big ones for our celebration she'll have to go in her kennel. The poor thing was petrified. She dug at the bathroom door til I let her in the back. Right into her kennel. I'd never take her to a parade, either. A local marching band practices down the road from my house, and they walk up my street and back. She totally freaks out (and I mean freaks out) if she's outside when they come by. (I forgot her outside the last time. I wondered why she was in such hysterics til one of my visitors said, "Is that a marching band I hear?") She'd never handle several marching bands, bagpipes, fire trucks, and the Kings Orange Rangers and their muskets.

It was a beautiful day today, so my BF and I took the kids to two beaches. Her SIL and her kids were at the first one for awhile. The back of my legs got sunburned. I guess I missed them when I was doing the sunscreen thing. They've been itching me like crazy. Got burned a little bit around my shoulders and on the tops of my feet. I'll have the strangest looking tan, as usual. Even though I still am pretty pale and have to usually show my watch strap tanline to prove that yes, I do indeed, have somewhat of a tan.

The Littlest One.

The Oldest One in a warm tidal pool. It's so nice to get there when the tide is getting low. I don't like going to the beach when it's high tide.

Jewel decided that she likes the water now! She loved to swim. I had a little video clip of her swimming but accidentally must have deleted it. Can't find it. Hard looking when she's wet, eh? LOL!

My best friend's little guy. He's two months older than my Littlest One.

The Littlest One and my BFs little guy.

My best friend's two girls. The one sitting is the oldest, she's a year and a month older than my Oldest One. The other one is in between my two in age.

Jellyfish! They were everywhere today.

Funky sand wall at Summerville Beach.

Port Joli Beach, the best one for shell collecting and clam digging. I hadn't been to this beach in years and forgot which road to actually take, and I won't go into the gorey details of getting there. It wasn't good, so let's just say there was an incident with a wrong road, a skinny pine tree, and now I need a new front quarter panel.

I had to take a picture of these pretty daisies and lupines that were growing at the dairy treat. (We stopped on the way back from the beaches for ice cream and fish, clams, and chips.)

So that's it til next time. I'm working on my Pillars of Atlantis socks right now. I have to work tomorrow night and Saturday. I'm hoping it will be busy (but it never is for us during Privateer Days), and I won't get a chance to knit. The bosses are working with me Saturday at least, probably not tomorrow night. It's the first time in years that my weekend to work has fallen on PD. At least I can go outside and watch the parade with the kids. The Boss Man stays inside and watches the store. Most businesses close for the parade, but he doesn't care to watch it. The Boss Lady and I will go out, though!

Happy knitting!

Glad to hear you and your friend are having a great time. Also glad about the good weather for them. No fun at the beach when it's cold and wet!
