Weekend

Saturday morning we got up at 6am and got the boys ready for the fishing derby. They had released 1000 trout before the tournament started at 7am. The boys had nibbles, but they didn't catch anything til after the derby ended. We stayed an extra hour.

Here's the Littlest One with the very first fish he ever caught. It was rather small, so back it went.

The Oldest One with his very first ever fish. It was small, too, so back it went.

After the derby we had a carpenter coming to put two window inserts in our front window. The living room has one and only one window, and this is it. None of the panes open, so summers it get just like an oven in here. We have a south-west facing window, it gets sun all day long (which is great in the winter), but summer there's just no air at all. This is before, they just started to pop some of the trim off.

The panes didn't come out easily. They were puttied in, we have two panes in the garage that had been replaced by the previous owner. How they got them out in one piece I'll never know. I think Hubs had fun bashing the window out. He did it a lot easier than the carpenter did with the first window. We had canvas down to help catch the glass cuz the dogs go out here, I didn't want them cutting their feet. Hubs didn't make a mess at all, but glass flew everywhere from the first window, a real mess.

Pumba yapped the entire time. I think he got annoyed as no one sat down long enough for him to invade their lap.

This is after with the windows wide open. What a difference! That evening the room was cool, a nice breeze coming in. We stood one of the pedestal fans in front of one of the windows, it was gorgeous. (Of course now and for the rest of the week til Friday it's going to rain and be below seasonal temperatures. I had to close the windows, and I am resisting the urge to turn on the furnace. It's June 13, dammit, and I don't live at the North Pole!) I think if hot weather does ever hit we'll have a lot cooler house than we usually did. The only worry now is the dogs, especially Maggie, she lays in this window all the time.

The inside view before the curtains went back up. You can see the sill where Maggie lays. Luckily it's really narrow on the ends, so she can't really get in front of much besides the three middle panes. I could see her going through the screen if she saw another dog outside. Jewel can't get up in the window, but she puts her front paws up on the sill and looks out. She'd better not dig my screens! When no one is home I will close the windows to a couple of inches, just to be safe.

Bit by bit we're slowing getting things done around the house. This was something that really HAD to be done, and I'm glad it's finished. I want to get prices on the middle panes, just double glass, as the one on the right, the seal is gone, and there's moisture between the panes. (That was what the end panes were like, too, so they were kind of foggy looking.) But that can wait for a bit, there's a couple of other things that need to be done first.

Knitting content next post! I'll finally have some FOs to show.

Happy knitting!

This cold rainy weather totally sucks! I am so tired of it and as you say, more to come for the rest of the week!

Yeah for the new window panes! I'm always happy when things got done too. It's been weird weather here this Spring. 5 days cold and rainy followed by two hot and humid days. You want both furnace and A/C on those days. But I'm rather happy with the cool, as long as it's not raining.
