Northern Exposure

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone! There's a man who comes in our store pretty much every day. He's 90, and he brought me a card with a Super 7 ticket in it. Unfortunately it was a bum ticket. I was hoping to call him and say we were millionaires!

I printed the film from my 35mm camera that hubby had with him in the truck. No damage seemed to be done to it in the accident. These pictures are a little hazy where I had to scan them, but the real prints are sharp, clear, and have gorgeous color. He took this first picture here when he went back to the accident site to meet up with the towing company.


This is what happened to one of the other Classic drivers on their way home. Luckily his trailer was empty, so all he needed was to get towed back onto the road. His bumper was bent, but I think that was all. Not sure what his towing bill was, but it was nowhere near our astranomical bill. (Which I found a copy of, btw, when I was posting his receipts. I've got it in my purse cuz I know no one believes it was that much.)

The truck really doesn't look that bad. Hard to believe she was laying on her side, actually. Most of the damage is to the bunk, as seen here by the duct tape, and you can also see the twisted headache rack that is just kinda flopping in the breeze. The fifth wheel (where the trailer hooks to the truck) needs to be replaced. It doesn't look damaged, but the pressure from the load surely twisted something inside, and I think he said it doesn't release like it should any more. His seat also broke on the way home, so they ordered him a new one. We decided to just fix what absolutely must be fixed. He didn't plan on keeping this truck once it was paid off anyways. No use "pimping" it all up if we aren't going to keep it. He's got his eye on a new International. (Repairs have to be kept to just what really has to be fixed, too. Found out that if the repair bill is, say, $15,000 plus tax, all we get is $5,000. The $10,000 deductible is taken right off the top, and we have to pay the tax because we'll get it back next month on our monthly tax return. Doesn't leave much money to do repairs with.)


Here is my prize from Alyson of The YoYo Knits. It's a gorgeous skein of sock yarn from the Yarn Pirate! It's called storm, and the color is beautiful. Been thinking about making these with it, but not too sure. The new Magknits is up, and there's new sock patterns there. I'll have to browse around the net before I decide for sure. She also sent a stitch marker made by Aija from Sock Pr0n. and Zer0markers.

I finished off this pair of mittens for the Knittin' Mittens KAL for February. They are made with discontinued Emu Superwash wool, and I'm adding them to my Dulaan pile. They were supposed to be for the Littlest One, but they don't quite fit right, meant for smaller hands. I have corrections written down for his pair, and if it works out how I want it to then I will post the pattern. I don't like how they do the thumb at all, so I have to work something else out. It was the first time I've knit this pattern. I see some places they do two purl rows for the "raised ridges", some do two knit rows, so do a knit row, purl row. I chose the two purl rows.

Hubby is gone to the city today. Hopefully the truck will be fixed by Friday night. She's going to the body shop to start bunk repairs tomorrow while the garage waits for the parts to arrive to fix the rest. For the week he'll be driving a company truck hauling concrete slabs around. He'll be paid by the hour, same as a company driver, but that's better than nothing. This truck has nowhere near the power of ours, so he's grumbling already about it. Not so bad just working local, not something he'd want to take too far, I'm sure. (He likes power!) I get to drive my Dad's truck all week. He's going away, and mine will be in the city all week. Gonna miss my satellite radio!

I have more pictures to post, too. I'll have to leave them for next time. We had an awful mess here Friday night. About 6" of snow fell in a few hours, then it changed to freezing rain, then rain. We actually went out (figures -- we never go anywhere, and when we do it's a mess!). We walked home from the bar at about 1:30am, and it was raining a bit. There was nowhere for the water to go because the snow had the storm drains covered. We had our waterproof LL Bean shoes on, but the water was so deep in places it came up over the laces, and we got wet feet anyways. (His worse than mine, but he was, how do I put it nicely, plastered, and couldn't walk right anyways. So someone was rather under the weather yesterday.) Anyways, the brook that runs out back was clogged with ice. I took some pictures when the firemen came to take a look. In the evening Region workers arrived with an excavator and loader to try to clear some out. I haven't transferred the pictures yet, but I don't think they're very good anyways. It was dark. They must have been there for three hours or more. The hardest part was trying to get the ice that was under the road. Most of the snow has melted. Yesterday was beautiful, sunny and quite warm. I am hoping that was the last mess of the winter.

Off to find something to knit. I may start a pair of socks, and I'd also like to get back to work on the sweater for the store. I feel really unsettled lately with my knitting. I think a lot of it is there's too much I want to make, and once I start something I think about other stuff I want to make and end up not wanting to finish what I started.
