Mud

It's the most dirtiest time of the year... (Sung to It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year)

But first, got a modelled shot of nephew in his sweater. It's a bit big, but that's okay. Better than too small like the first one.

Got a fugly baby hat. It's the basic hat from Top Down for Toddlers. I like the pattern, but I don't like this yarn. It's something NovaKnitter got in Florida a few years ago and didn't like. She returned all but the one that she started using, so she gave it to me. It's cotton, and those little nubblies were a pain in the butt.

Now for the part involving mud.... The kids and I took the dogs for a walk last night. They wanted to take them to the ball field to run loose before we went home. I should have known better since as soon as I opened the gate my foot sank in the mud right up to the shoelaces. Luckily I didn't have my new sneakers on. Anyways, the dogs were so excited cuz they knew they were where they can run free, so I let them go. Not a good idea in retrospect. Plus the kids were running amok in the mud, the Littlest One fell down, etc. My mother lives across the road from the fields, so they went to her house to get bathed up. I took Noots and Tootsie home and confined them to the kitchen while I got their baths ready.

This is Jewel in all her filthiness. All that fur made it hard to get the mud out of her belly and legs, especially since she hates to bath and doesn't co-operate well.

And here's Maggie. At least her fur is shorter, and I got her to sit down in the tub which made it easier to clean her belly and legs. They thought it was much more fun to run in the mud than to stay on the grass in the outfield. These pictures don't do their filthiness justice.

Maggie got her bath first. Neither one likes it at all. This was Jewel's tub after it drained, and Maggie's was about the same. Worse than when I take the kids to the beach in the summer, and the tub is full of sand. Plus the kitchen floor was all muddy, so I had to mop it. Plus the kids clothes and jackets all had to be washed as well as their boots.
Maggie post bath, and clean and shiny and good smelling.
Jewel wouldn't even look at me.
Clean again for five minutes. Maggie got right fluffy and curly, Jewel is soft and silky. Trouble is it's going to rain today, and they have the front yard tore up into a big mud hole. They are definitely NOT ladies, the dirtier they get the more they like it. I keep an old towel by the front door to wipe their paws.

Happy knitting!

The definite sign that spring is in the air is mud. My whole driveway and side yard is all mud. We have a little paved part but with 4 cars and girlfriends or boyfriends here sometimes making it at times 6 cars, they've taken to parking on the lawn that is not lawn anymore! And now, it's MUD. Jake doesn't care either way. He also doesn't care if he is covered when he comes inside. I guess it's the price you pay for summer!

You're a better puppy mom than I am...I don't let Hank go out when it's muddy, which means he's pretty much confined to the house until summer. That's not entirely true...M takes him to the beach whenever he can. Sand you can just brush away. Hank only gets a couple of baths a year and it's quite the production. We bathe him in the apartment shower/tub and the last time M did it, I could hear the commotion here in the house. It's hard to bathe a behemoth dog who doesn't care for it. But he does like being clean when it's all over...mostly because we make a big fuss.

The roving is stuff I got from your store, only used 2 strands instead of the 5 that come together.
I think I need to check out the carded raw fleece .. can you get that?
Thanks for the compliment :)

I pity you! What I've learned with my dogs is, that I towel them down after the walk, their legs and underbelly is always dirty as can be, the rest just falls off of them as soon as they get dry. I've got a really great vaccum cleaner, and have to use it a lot of course, but there's no way we would get 90lbs heavy Sam in a tub. He's afraid of water. Biko would tolerate it if must be, but as soon as it's possible we'll activate the hose outside, much better. :o) Oh and the nephews sweater looks great! I like those colors for kids.

The nephew looks adorable in his new sweater. Kids deserve bright knits!

OMG! I love your dogs, but you poor woman, the maintenance you must do to keep them looking so gorgeous! I remember those days with our Springer. She's too old for the mud nonsense now. She'll be lucky if she lasts to see summer.

A really good vacuum definitely is worth it, especially with dogs that have the fur like your two girls! I splurged bigtime and got a Dyson Animal Vacuum and I have never regretted it one bit!!

It took me a long time to decide if I wanted to spend so much money on a vacuum. However, I have never regretted it now. Mine cost about $550 in January of 2008. I don't have a ball one cause they came out with those a few months after I purchased mine. I wish I had the ball though.

When we got the vacuum hubbys was skeptical and thought we didn't need such an expensive vacuum, until he saw it work. We did the old fashion vacuum salesman test. I vacuumed my parlor rug with my old vacuum and then went over it with the Dyson and you would not believe what it picked up!!!! It's amazing. My floors are so much cleanner and my rugs are so much cleanner (when I vacuum!).

I went through a few sears vacuums in our 28 years of marriage and though they worked fine, they were nothing like my Dyson.
