Road Trip Part Four

Last Thursday we went to the Calgary Zoo. I highly recommend it to anyone who travels that way. It closed at 6pm, and we must have gotten there shortly after noon. We didn't see it all. I guess there was a baby elephant there somewhere, but we didn't get to it. We didn't see the baby tiger either. We took a cooler in a wagon (I was surprised they let us bring it in, but they did) and had picnic lunch shortly after we got there.

We had my best friend's Jeep, and she has a built-in dvd player. I may have to invest in one of those. Never heard a peep out of them. They watched Cars several times.

Left to right is her son, the Littlest One, the Oldest One, her oldest daughter, and her best friend. The first night we were there her middle daughter went with her grandparents to Medicine Hat for a week. She came back last night, and the other two are now gone for a week. (So we didn't get to see her very long. We left yesterday for home and right now are at the Flying J outside of Winnipeg, waiting for a reload.)

I don't remember exactly what these were now. They were deer or at least not normal deer. This little one was born about an hour before we got there and was just learning to stand up. It was so cute!

Whooping crane.

I don't think I've ever seen a hippo in person before. I went to the Quebec Zoo in grade eight, but I don't remember seeing one. There were warning signs up that they spray to mark their territory, but fortunately it didn't happen when we were there.

I don't think I ever saw giraffes in person before, either. They were beautiful.

They have three gorillas. They had four, but one died. They weren't very active when we were there.

They had a rainforest that was really cool, but it was sooooo hot and muggy! I know that's how they're supposed to be, but it was a great relief to get out of there into the fresh air.

Bird of Paradise.

Butterfly in the conservatory.

Flower gardens around the conservatory.

They boys in the flower garden.

The playground at the zoo.

The Littlest One's giraffe, my Calgary Zoo water bottle, the Oldest One's leopard, and their prairie dog.

I have gotten one of my Breeze socks almost done, I'm just on the toe. I also started some plain vanilla socks in some self-striping yarn last night.
Happy knitting!

Glad you liked the zoo - hubby and I have been there many times. Went there on Jan 3rd one year, and I got kissed by a llama :)
Does the Calgary zoo still have the dinosaur part?
It's nice reading about your trip; we've been to many of the same places

I've enjoyed watching your adventures - I have a photo of my 2 youngest boys EXACTLY like the one at the top of this post! I called them in for the Mall pictures which brought back memories - they LOVED that water park!
Hope you get out of Winnepeg and get home soon!
