Cuba 2015 Part Three

So one morning before it got too hot A and I decided to go for a little walk.  Hubs had read that Cuba had no poisonous snakes or bugs.  On our walk we came across this freshly killed snake.  He might not have been poisonous, but he wasn't small, either!

There were a bunch of goats along the side of the road.  I do love goats!

Egrets.

About a 10 minute walk up the road from our resort is a new market they built within the last year.  It was the third year in a row coming to this resort for two of our group members, and they said they were building this place last year when they were there.

The bag on the top right came home with me.

See the light purple dress/cover up hanging on the left?  That came home with me as well.

On the way back the buzzards had started clean up on our snake friend.

The face only a mother could love, lol.  I know they are like crows back here, excellent for cleaning stuff up, but they aren't very cute in the face, that's for sure.

Baby goat!

April 8th was M's birthday.  This waiter was my favorite waiter, he was a sweetie.

Something had gotten lost in translation the day before when we made the reservation, and M ended up with a pink cake.  I think they thought it was for one of the ladies in our group.

It matched the pink bag I gave him his gift in, lol.

Oh, look, socks! lol

Cuba 2015 Part Two

So one day the five of us girls decided to go to Guardalavaca to the market. This was the cab we went in, the driver was Carlos, and his wife was a customer relations person at the resort we were at.  Taking a cab (or probably any sort of transportation) in Cuba is kind of taking your life in your own hands.  There really aren't (or don't seem to be) any rules of the road, or not many.

Only three of the guys rented scooters.  It was kind of neat, the taxi we were in, he had different sounding horns.  One was a police car siren.  We came up behind the guys who had no idea it was us, and Carlos turned on the siren, lol.

Guardalavaca has a really nice beach.  This one is a public beach, the resort Club Amigo is located on this beach.  Lots of people tend to go to that one, it's cheaper but it's older, but a lot of people seem to like it.  I took pictures at the market, but better ones were taken on the second trip there, so I will save those for another time.

We missed the lunch buffet, so when we got back to our resort they had this station filled with stuff to make your own ham sub or bun.  I gotta say, this, I think, was the best thing I ate the entire time there.  The food gets quite monotonous, and a lot of it is pretty bland.  But this was really good.

When you eat outside you get lots of winged company, lol.  I fed them some of the bread.

They fog this resort every day for bugs, but when we returned to our room that night this guy was on the wall outside of our room.  He was quite big, probably 3" long.  He flew at me, though, so he wasn't my friend any more.

Cuba 2015 Part One

So for the first time ever we finally went on a vacation.  No kids this time, but I promised them next time the vacation would include them.  It was the first time I'd gone anywhere for more than like one night without the boys, and it was the first time I'd ever been on a plane.  Hubs says it only took 15 years to get a honeymoon, lol.  We went down as a group, two left on Good Friday, six of us the next day.  Our flight was delayed for over three hours because of fog, the planes couldn't land.  They ended up being rerouted to Quebec City for refueling, so that meant we didn't land in Cuba until 2am Sunday, and it was almost 3:30am before we got to our resort.  (We should have arrived at the resort Saturday around 11pm.)  I had texted the couple that arrived before us to tell them we were delayed, but they didn't get it, don't think they checked their phone, but they were still up and waiting for us in the lobby when we arrived like they said they would be.

I took over 1100 pictures, lol, got them all on Facebook, but I'll just pick and choose a few for on here over a few posts.  I love taking pictures, and I tend to get carried away.  We stayed at Blau Costa Verde on the Plus side of the resort, located in Holguin. Very nice.  Very hot, windy all the time, but that's good or everyone would die.  It didn't rain during the day, only a passing sprinkle once in awhile that felt really good.  Wednesday night it rained so hard that it woke me up, I thought someone was in my shower, that's what it sounded like.

The main pool off the lobby.  We sat where this picture was taken from every day.  As guests of the Plus side there was another pool for Plus only, but it had absolutely no shade, we preferred the main pool.  Also, two of our party were not on the Plus side, so they weren't supposed to use the other pool.   We had no choice but to book the Plus side, that's all that was left when we booked.  They were full to capacity the entire time we were there.

Aquabar at the main pool.  Leo, the world's best bartender, works here.

I had to take lots of old car pictures for Dad.  Most of the old cars are taxis.

Blau has a private beach.  Really awesome snorkeling, which I did four times.

More pictures next post!

Socks and Not Socks Part 2

Catching up some more FOs, first up is a Kersti Scarf made with Rowan Tapestry.  Since the yarn color changes on its own I didn't use a second color.  I used 3.5mm needles and cast on 300sts.  Details here.

Next up is a pair of really nice socks, probably one of my favorites, Cookie A's Summer Sox Socks, the yarn is Wandering Cat Yarns Alley Cat Sock in sweetpea.  I will definitely knit this pattern again.  Details here.

More sock monkey slippers for a friend for her birthday.  She had said her daughter would probably take them, so I made two pairs so her daughter could have her own.  The pattern is based on Aunt Maggie's Slippers, and the yarn is Patons Shetland Chunky.  Details here.

Last is a pair of slippers for me, my other ones wore out.  Leftover Patons Classic Wool, I didn't have to cobble them together as much as I thought I would.  The pattern is Fiber Trends Felted Clogs.  Details here.
