FO Catch Up

I made my friend, M, another pair of ankle socks.  This pair was started April 10 and finished on the 14th.  The bright yellow is old Bernat Hot Sox, the main part is leftover Marks & Kattens Fame Trend from this hat.  Standard 60st vanilla socks on 2.75mm needles with a 10 row cuff then right into the heel over 30sts, toe to 20sts, details here.

Next up was a quickie scarf that I made for the Littlest One's school spring fiesta on April 20.  The yarn was mill ends of Fleece Artist Merino that I got one World Wide Knit in Public Day at Have a Yarn.  The pattern is One Row Lace Scarf, knit on 5.5mm needles, started April 14, finished the 18th, I used up probably a little over half of the skein, and blocked it measured about 5.5" wide and 86" long.  Details here.

And I had a bit of a fall off the wagon when it comes to buying yarn.  Last year I bought yarn to do like four projects, so not very much at all.  (Didn't really need much since when the shop closed I bought a ton at half price!) Mary Maxim had a sock yarn sale, so I bought just a bit - 10 skeins!  But at least half of this is destined for man socks, and I don't really have much in the stash for man socks.  The brown will be socks for step FIL for Christmas, and the dark grey will be for my friend, T.  He is the other half of M and has been getting digs in about all the socks she gets, and the only thing he's gotten is a hat.  All of these with tax and shipping was a little less than $85, so that's not so bad.  I'll get 10+ pairs out of this, I'm sure I'll make M some more mismatched ankle socks, she loves them!  Details on these can be found in my Ravelry stash.

Happy knitting!

PS  Maggie is doing quite well except that I have to keep the cone on her pretty much 24/7.  She just won't leave the cast sore alone if I don't.  She's got about a week and a half to go, and she should be getting her cast off!

Uh Oh!

Hi!  It's me, Maggie, again.  I have been having such a rough week!  I ended up at the vet again last night all night.  My toes on my cast foot got all sore in between them.  Now I've got an orange sock that I'm supposed to keep on for about two days.  They gave Mama a little bit of it on a roll so she can change it or add new if she has to.  I also have a cast sore on the top of my arm.  They sold her some cream for it.  She can also put it on my toes if she has to, but they said to try to keep them as dry as possible.  Mama came and got me after supper tonight.  When we got home she put some of the cream on my sore, but I kept trying to lick it off, so I got the dreaded cone.

I'm not very happy, I can tell you that, I just can't help myself!  I can pick up 149 channels with this thing, I swear!

Take it off, please, I'll be good for 5 seconds!

Now it's The Mama -- she actually fell asleep wearing the cone.  I hated to do it to her, but she's such a bugger.  They told me I have to keep her calmer, no exercise, no playing with Jewel, etc.  She hasn't been doing anything other than walking around the house and going out to use the bathroom.  I did take her to work Friday, but that's minimal movement.  I always help her in and out of the car, and I've been helping her down the steps to go out, too.  She's so darned hyper, she's definitely got ADHD, I don't know what I'm going to do with her!  They're scared the tendon won't heal correctly.  When I picked her up tonight the girl working said most dogs are very cautious when they've got a cast, but Maggie flings it around like it's nothing!  Little bugger.

Will try to have some knitting content next post.  I do have a FO or two to show, and I fell off the wagon for yarn purchasing -- 10 new skeins of sock yarn seem to have made it my way.  But in all defense half of them at least are for man socks, I didn't really have anything in the stash for men... and they were all on sale.... see, I can reason it, lol.

Happy knitting!

The Wounded

This is Maggie, I'm taking over Mama's blog today.  Wednesday I was a bit of a bad girl.  After Mama went to work I decided to snoop on the kitchen counter, see what goodies I might find.  Mama calls me Springy sometimes because I have border collie in me, and I can jump really high, so getting up on the countertop isn't hard for me!  I stole Pumba's cat food and a couple of dishes out of the sink.  I didn't put them back, so Mama found the evidence of what I was doing.  So when I jumped down I didn't quite land right.  When my big brother got home from school I tried to get off the sofa and fell, so he called Mama at work and told her that I couldn't walk on my right front leg.  She came home from work and checked me out, called the doctor, but I couldn't get in til the next morning.

So the next morning Mama and her BFF took me to the doctor.  I didn't want to go in there, I tried to get away.  The doctor said I had to stay so he could sedate me and xray me to see if I broke anything.  When they tried to get me into the back I slipped out of my collar and ran for Mama who was going out the door.  The big meanie left me there with strangers, and I was so scared.  I guess the doctor called her in the evening and said I didn't break anything, he was going to put a compression bandage on my leg and send me home.  But he changed his mind and called her back five minutes later and told her that he was putting a cast on my leg, and I couldn't leave til the next morning!  He realized that I tore the tendon off the small bone in the back of my leg where the paw attaches, my dog ankle, I guess you can call it.  Through the night I chewed my cast, so when she came for me I had this hideous cone around my head, and I was howling for all I was worth.  Mama heard me as soon as she got close to the front door!  I'm supposed to wear it when no one is around to keep an eye on me.  I can pick up 149 channels when I'm wearing it, I swear!  I hate it, it caused me great stress.

I have medication to take for inflammation and pain, and I have some other stuff to calm me down if I get worked up, but now that I'm home I've settled down.  Mama even took me to work with her this afternoon because I was so stressed from the vet visit, she wouldn't leave me alone.  I don't like my paw being bent back this way, but the doctor said I have to so it will heal correctly.  He also told Mama that I need to lose weight, and you can tell by the look on my face what I think about that idea!  If he thinks I'm overweight he should take a look at Jewel!!

Mama will be back in a couple of days with some knitting stuff.  I'm stuck with this thing on my arm for three weeks!

Production Spurt

I seem to have a bit of a production spurt.  Not sure how long it's going to last, we'll have to see.

I cranked out a super fast pair of Broadripples for the Oldest One's French immersion Quebec trip silent auction.  These babies were started on April 1st and finished the 4th.  He had to take them to school on the 5th for the auction on the 6th.  I used 2.75mm needles and Patons Kroy in krazy stripes.  Details here.  (I made a pair of these exactly the same years ago for my BFF when we drove almost the whole way across Canada.  I started hers here at home and finished them in Fort McMurray, AB!)

Second up is another pair of ankle socks.  I knew I wouldn't have enough Noro Silk Garden Sock to make an entire pair of ankle socks, so I dug through the stash and found some leftovers of what I believe is old Bernat Sox for the picot cuff, heels, and toes.  These ones were also knit on 2.75mm needles and started on April 4, finished on the 9th.  Details here.

I really have to get the new nephew's baby blanket finished.  BUT... the Littlest One has a school Spring Fiesta coming up on the 20th, and they have a silent auction at that as well.  I was thinking about trying to whip up something quick for that as well!  Hopefully this production line will continue on for the next while!

Happy knitting!

Noro Silk Garden Anklets

I hope that everyone celebrating Easter had a great weekend.  The weather here was gorgeous (til today, it's raining) and had lots of goodies to eat.  I whipped up a pair of ankle socks lickety split so I'd have a pair for the Sock-A-Month Knitalong.  These were started March 29, finished the 31st, knit on 2.75mm needles.  The yarn is Noro Silk Garden Sock in colorwas S258.  I added a picot cuff for something different.  There should be enough left for another pair, but I don't think I'll do the picot cuff.  Noro is Noro, thick, thin, twisty... so doing the picot cuff was a pain at times.  Made these for a friend who only wears ankle socks and prefers mismatched socks.  Ravelry details here.

Offical hockey season ended this month.  We went away to a tournament during March break, but they didn't make out so well, they lost all three games.  They had a pizza party on the 26th.  They all got a medal and a certificate.  There were three medals given to our team from Hockey Nova Scotia, sponsored by Esso.  The Littlest One got one of these medals.  They were for Most Dedicated, Most Improved, and Most Sportsmanlike.  He got Most Dedicated as he never missed a practice or a game.  One other boy had the same record, but I think TLO got it cuz it was his first year in hockey, the other boy played last year.  So the coaches of our team had medals made that looked pretty much the same for the rest of the kids so no one had hurt feelings, so that was a good thing.

And of course there was an egg hunt here yesterday, lots of chocolate floating around.

Maggie tried to steal some goodies, of course.

And that was about it for March.  My new nephew was born on St. Patty`s Day, so I guess I had better get my butt in gear and finished his blanket.  It is nearly done, just a couple more blocks and the border.

Happy knitting!
