Hot, Hot, HOT!

Wow, someone really turned the heat up today!  +32C, I had to get out all of the window fans, turn on all of the ceiling fans, open windows... poor Pumba looks like someone shot him, the dogs aren't much better.  My house is just like an oven, it's terrible.  It gets cooler in the evening outside than it is inside  The best place is definitely the basement, we'll spend a lot of time in the rec room if this is a sign of what the summer will be like. On my list of wants is a heat pump system like my parents got installed at their place last fall, it heats in the winter, cools in the summer.   Must have one.

I finally finished up a pair of socks earlier in the month that lingered on the needles far too long.  They kept taking the back burner to other projects.  These are Hedera socks started February 15, finished May 23.  I used 2.5mm needles, the yarn is Cascade Heritage in color 5611.  I followed the pattern to the T, details here.

If the house cools down I may get to do a little more knitting tonight.  I've got another pair of socks on the go I'd like to get done so I can clear another project of the WIP list.  It's supposed to be just as hot tomorrow.  The Oldest One has his year end Air Cadet Ceremonial Review in the morning, poor kids have to be all decked out in full uniform for about four hours.  It's held at the junior high school in the gym, so it's going to be hot!  At least it's in the morning, starting at 10am, so it should be over at noon before it gets too hot.

Happy knitting!

FO Catch Up

Got some FOs to catch up on - first up is the baby blanket that I finally finished for Nephew #5.  This is a mitred square blanket based on the Sock Yarn Blanket, started February 26, finished April 28.  Knit on 4mm needles, the yarn is discontinued Bernat Jr Jacquards in country kid.  Ravelry details here.

Next up is yet another pair of ankle socks for my friend, M.  These were knit on 2.75mm needles, they are standard 60st vanilla ankle socks with a 10 row cuff, heel over 30sts, toe to 20sts.  The yarn is Mary Maxim Bounce, a cotton blend sock yarn of which I'm not super fussy over, but I liked the colorway.  And M does like flashy socks, this colorway is called calypso.  Started on April 22, finished May 2, Ravelry details here.

The last FO to show today is just a couple of plain old dishcloths I made for myself out of my last leftover Bernat Handicrafter (from these bags).  Started May 3, finished May 5, Ravelry details here.

That's it for now, but I'm hoping to have a long overdue pair of socks off the needles tonight.  And on a happy note Maggie got her splint off yesterday!  She's still really quite gimpy.  I suppose, though, she hasn't walked on that leg properly for over five weeks.  She's not allowed to go for any walks yet or play, for the next two weeks she has to be treated like she still has a cast or splint on her leg.

Happy knitting!

I's Having It So Hard!

It's me, Maggie, again!  I's having such a hard time!  This week I's supposed to get my cast off.  That DID actually happen, but now I's got this silly thing on for two weeks.  It's something they called a splint, it's this plastic thingy that goes down my arm all the way to my toes, but it's open on one side.  They wrapped it with elasticy stuff.  At least my paw goes straight now, not bent back, little easier to get around.  But this was the least of my problems.

You see, Sunday night Mama took that dreaded cone off for a bit while I's eating, and when I's done I's lick in a weird spot.  Well, she thought it was a weird spot.  She looked but didn't see anything, but I's wouldn't stop.  Of course that cone came back on, and Mama went to investigating.  What she found was in her words "gross!".  I's had a big ol' sore under my cast on the back of my arm.  And I's mean BIG, and it was all yucky and gross cuz it was 'fected or something like that, she said.

So she called the vet in the morning, but they had no openings til the next morning.  I don't think they believed how yucky it was.  So when the doctor saw it he said it was a mess, and he made me stay all day!  I's so upset I's peed all over the floor.  So Mama left me there, and later on I's had a really good sleep but woke up with this thing on my arm, and some of my fur was missing, and I's had a worse hurt in my arm than when that sore was there!  Mama wasn't allowed to get me til after 7 cuz I's so tired.  She came, they told her my sore was all the way to my muscle, I's got three layers of stitches - in my muscle, in my tissue, and in my skin!  Super yucky and gross was right!  So I's got another pill to take, and all the sore spots are covered.  Mama was so upset over not seeing my hurt, she feels so bad, specially when she had to get her chequebook out again last night!  I's expensive girl, she says.

So last night I's had terrible night, Mama never got much sleep.  I's cry and whine all night, but Mama knows I's in pain, stitches hurt!  I's finally got settled around 4am after a drink and a pee, then I's sleep pretty good til time to get my brothers up for school at 7.  Only good thing Mama said was doctor said my wrist felt great!

Mama be back next time!
